WE LIVE IN TIME - BFI London Film Festival 2024

We Live In Time is director John Crowley's and screenwriter Nick Payne's attempt at a Richard Curtis-style tragic love story. The film was so mannered and cute, with meticulously designed interiors, that I felt completely alienated. The complete lack of authenticity killed any emotional connection to a film that could have been deeply moving. If you want to watch We Live In Time movie you can visit afdah info.

Andrew Garfield enters the film scowling as the nerdy, conventional Tobias, but is run over by Florence Pugh. Pugh's Almut Bruhl is a cool, unconventional, hyper-competitive, bisexual, hipster chef. They fall in love, they break up because they can't decide whether to have kids, she gets cancer, he has a kid, she gets cancer again, he wins a cooking contest, and then he dies.

Aside from a small altercation at the beginning where the man asks the woman if she wants kids, there is no emotional development or emotional tension. Unbearably awkward and unlikely meetings are piled on top of even more unbearably unlikely meetings. To make matters worse, the film has a non-linear structure, which means it lacks dramatic tension.

What a waste of a fine actress.

It was shown in Toronto and London in 2024. It is scheduled to be released in the US on October 11th and in the UK on January 1st, 2025.
