Heads of State 2025 Afdah is not your typical action movie — it's what occurs when heads of state forgo being diplomatic and begin taking bullets. It's directed by Ilya Naishuller and features John Cena, Idris Elba, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas in a mission that is both absurd and captivating.
Against the background of an international conspiracy, the movie starts with the United States President (Cena) and British Prime Minister (Elba) as targets of an assassination attempt. The surprise? They are clueless about what's happening, have no spy skills, and hardly any chemistry. That's where the party starts.
In order to rescue their lives and potentially avoid a global meltdown, they are compelled to collaborate with Noel Bisset, a top-notch MI6 operative portrayed by Priyanka Chopra Jonas. She's intelligent, level-headed, and completely exasperated by the mayhem that these two powerful (and clueless) males introduce into every opportunity.
The comedy comes easily throughout the film, particularly in the scenes showing the cultural clashes and inflated egos of Cena's arrogant American President and Elba's no-nonsense, dry-witted Prime Minister. Their exchanges are a combination of classic buddy-cop banter with contemporary political satire, and every scene is both ridiculous and somehow plausible.
But keeping the story on the ground is the performance of Chopra. She plays Agent Bisset with the professionalism the mission requires and the physicality that so many action parts are missing. She doesn't play second fiddle — she commands missions, makes decisions, and, for the most part, gets them done.
The film doesn’t skimp on action. Expect rooftop fights, helicopter escapes, high-tech surveillance, double-crosses, and a few hilariously overdone explosions. Every sequence is polished, with Naishuller’s trademark style giving the movie an edge that keeps it from becoming too silly, even when the script leans into full-on mayhem.
Beneath all the upheaval, Heads of State carries a quiet message regarding leadership and collaboration. These leaders are a fish out of water, yet they figure things out in ways no one could have anticipated. Of course, having a trained MI6 operative to walk them through every scenario doesn't hurt.
If you need a movie that's actiony, world-trotting, and full of character, Heads of State checks all the boxes. It's not about intricate politics or emotional journeys — it's about enjoying the ride as potentates utterly out of their element.
I viewed it on Afdah, and it was silky, HD quality and well worth the watch. It's great for one of those nights where you want something loud, fast, and full of characters that you won't be forgetting.
With its star-studded cast, breakneck script, and globe-trotting action, Heads of State is an unhinged ride you won't be able to resist. Whether you're in it for the humor, the stunts, or just to get to watch Cena and Elba bicker their way through spy missions, this movie delivers what it promises — good, old-fashioned mayhem.
