Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me 2022 Afdah

Selena Gomez My Mind & Me Afdah. Pop star and actress Selena Gomez has been open about her struggles with anxiety and bipolar depression. The singer has never spoken as openly and honestly about mental health as in this documentary.

Director Alek Keshishian, best known for the documentary Madonna: Truth or Dare, shows us a lot of behind-the-scenes hustle, planning, anxiety, and moments of what it means to be Selena Gomez, how physically and mentally hard it is to live with this level of popularity. From the probing questions she asks her team and friends, and from the diary entries that are animated with handwriting and placed above the abstract b/w images of Gomez, it's clear she has a lot on her mind. This makes her incredibly sensitive and attentive, but also keeps her awake at night. The film begins in 2016, with Selena canceling her world tour, taking a break from social media, and consulting medical professionals on how best to move on. Keshishian and Gomez then elaborate on her life story, talking about what happened after her breakdown where she reconnected with her past and rebuilt her career. Every 5-10 minutes or so in this film, there is a teary-eyed moment where Selena reveals her core dilemma: being someone who loves to make fans happy and creative, but (like many people) is very afraid of disappointing her family and friends. At the end of the movie, one can't help but feel that the dark secrets Gomez shared were carefully chosen, presented in a very stylized way. This is not a frank confession, but something more like a spiritual one, an open conversation with a new friend, but with some things left unsaid or embellished. And this is in an attempt to direct the conversation towards a specific goal. You can't blame the singer for wanting to keep some secrets to herself, as her personal life has been in the public eye since early childhood. Her health problems, relationships were discussed on the Internet up and down. Gomez uses the film to state her priorities, and her carefully controlled revelations are a chance to write her own story. Around "My Mind and I" there is an idea that you need to take care of mental health. What is perhaps most touching about the film is simply her desire to tell her own story and thereby save her own life. Selena fully reveals her real self so that viewers can see her when she is sick, tired, cries, worries, gets irritated, nervous and angry. This was done with the intention of building a connection between herself and the viewer, as well as showing what is really important to her. After watching My Mind & Me, you'll definitely feel a little closer to her, or at least become interested in Selena's continued success in overcoming her personal obstacles, including lupus (which required a kidney transplant), bipolar disorder, and fame.
